Bonnie Count

Bonnie turned 30 years old on May 5th. 2000. I have owned her since she was 6 years old. She last foaled when she was twenty six. I kept one of her fillies ( Shans Bonnie Lassie ). Bonnie is a Thoroughbred, and although she isnt very big herself, 15. h.h. She always produced foals that grew to 15.2+ h.h. most have been black. To get to know Bonnie when she was younger read my story on the home page. ( Story of Old Bones ) Bonnie has a story of her own coming up, but here is a little peek into her life. Bonnie has always been Boss mare, and she still comes into heat like clock work, but she cant run with Shammus and his mares because she wont let him breed another mare. I use to take her out of Shammus' pasture at night, and put in the mare to be bred. Bonnie went into a paddock that had a 5 foot chain link fence on three sides plus a 2x6 top board plus an electric wire on top. The river made the fence on the other side. I would get up in the morning and there would be Bonnie, standing guard over Shammus. This went on for a couple of nights, and I couldnt figure out how she was getting over the fence. Then I realized she was swimming the river around to the other pasture. So I changed my plan, I would catch Bonnie and tie her up, then bring in the mare to be bred. Shammus would be ready to do his job, and Bonnie would say something to him, and that would be game over. It got so I had to put Bonnie in the barn, even then Shammus would be looking over his shoulder. I wouldn't believe it if I didnt see it. Bonnie gave up being lead mare about 7 years ago, when she lost some sight in one eye, BUT she still is BOSS mare. Bonnie Lassie is taking her Mom's place in the broodmare band. she is 15. 3 h.h. and a blue black, I bred her to a black/white paint stallion this year, that should be an awsome foal.Check out Shan's Bonnie Lassie on our site. My story about Old Bones is about a Thoroughbred mare I bought when she was two, and she started me out raising Anglo Arabs. You will enjoy the story.
